We are really excited to help sharing the words of these two great minds and wonderful people. Higgins and Eisenstein will be presenting their work and ideas in a conversational way. The audience is welcome to ask questions.
POLLY HIGGINS
In 2010 international barrister and award winning author Polly Higgins proposed to the United Nations that Ecocide be the 5th Crime Against Peace.
Ecocide is the extensive damage to, destruction of or loss of ecosystem(s) of a given territory, whether by human agency or by other causes, to such an extent that peaceful enjoyment by the inhabitants of that territory has been or will be severely diminished.
She is University of Oslo’s 2013/2014 Arne Naess Chair in Global Justice and the Environment. She leads the Eradication Ecocide Global Initiative, co-founded the Earth Law Alliance and last, but not least, is a Voice for the Earth.
“I’m rethinking law; my vision is a world that works from one simple overriding principle: ‘first do no harm’. That is a world where people are thriving in harmony with nature. I believe in well-being for all beings… Help me End Ecocide by 2020. I have proposed that Ecocide become an international crime. With your help we can make this happen.”
Higgins is spending much of her time writing, speaking and advising on an international law of Ecocide. She advises at all levels; governmental, legal and non-legal. She connects with a wide-range of organisations who are working from the same premise; that it is time to say ‘enough’ to mass damage and destruction to the Earth.
When she is not wearing her Earth law hat, she is exploring big questions, such as how to create maximum freedom for humanity to be creative from a place of love?
CHARLES EISENSTEIN
Charles Eisenstein is a philosopher, speaker, and writer focusing on themes of civilization, consciousness, money and human cultural evolution.
His online writings have generated a vast following, he speaks frequently at conferences and other events, and gives numerous interviews on radio and podcasts. He has been called “one of the up-and-coming great minds of our time” and “young, fresh, well-informed, humble but articulate, with a very spiritual perspective.”
His 2011 book Sacred Economics revolves around the theme of how the current monetary system based on interest and usury, along with the abandonment of the gift economy, has led to alienation, competition and need for an economic system predicated on continuous growth. This book tracks the changes that are already taking place in our economic system, with chapters concentrating on negative interest currencies, the idea of the commons, local currency systems, the internalization of costs, resource-based economics, as well as a social dividend.
